Scissor lifts are elevated work platforms designed to provide vertical elevation for both personnel and equipment. Ideal for indoor and outdoor use, scissor lifts are commonly used in construction, maintenance and warehousing applications, providing a safe and stable solution for accessing high and hard-to-reach areas.
Our scissor lifts for hire feature numerous inbuilt safety features and mechanisms to prioritise the wellbeing of operators. These include guardrails, secure harness mechanisms, stabilising outriggers and emergency stop buttons. In addition, the majority of our scissor lift fleet has operator protection systems or secondary guarding to prevent the operator from being trapped.
You do not need a licence to hire and operate a scissor lift under 11m, but an EWP (Elevated Work Platform) Yellow Card is recommended and you must ensure operators know how to operate the scissor lift safely with the right training, information and instruction. A high-risk work licence is required for operating boom-type EWPs, such as cherry pickers and knuckle booms, with a boom length of 11m or more.
The right scissor lift depends on where it will be used, the required working height and how much space is available. Compact models suit confined indoor areas, while larger units are used on open sites. Platform size and capacity should also match the number of workers and tools needed for the task.
The most suitable option depends on where and how the lift will be used. Electric scissor lifts are typically used indoors or on flat, stable surfaces where low noise and zero emissions are required. Diesel models are better suited to outdoor use, particularly on rough or uneven ground where more power and traction are needed.
Height should align with the working area, including any clearance required above the platform. Terrain affects stability and whether a rough terrain model is needed. Load capacity must account for workers, tools and materials to ensure safe operation without exceeding platform limits.
