FAQs

Tirfor winches operate using a manual grip-and-pull mechanism, which allows for precise lifting, pulling and tensioning of heavy loads. Unlike traditional winches, they use a wire rope that passes through the device, making them highly versatile and portable. Tirfor winches are self-locking, meaning they hold the load in place even if the operator stops pulling. Their manual operation makes them ideal for remote locations where power sources are unavailable

Common uses of a Tirfor winch include:

  • Construction & rigging: Used for lifting steel beams, positioning structures and tensioning cables.
  • Mining & industrial work: Helps with equipment installation, pulling machinery and load securing.
  • Rescue & recovery operations: Frequently used in vehicle recovery, emergency rescue and disaster response.

A Tirfor winch is supplied with the appropriate wire rope for the Tirfor. The typical length of wire rope is 20 metres.
